Everyone is so grateful both boys are home with their families.
No one will know the whole story unless both boys open up and tell their family or therapist.

I can't imagine being taken captive at any age.

We hear of so many crimes against children these days that we really are "numb". We hear it but it does not register how serious these crimes are.

Put yourself on a bike riding down a street singing and thinking about playing with you friends at the ballpark. Then someone drives up next to you and asks "will you help me find my dog, he's lost"?.....the child feels sorry for the person and joins him not realizing what is happening ....the child never gets to the field to play and never returns home to eat and go to sleep in his own bed where he has slept all of his short life. Parents call for help and it takes time for the police to act and start looking.....while the boy is riding along in the car with the captor...he becomes scared and wonders what is next....the man tells the kid all kinds of things to keep him from panicking. Who knows what happens next.....now back to Shawn/Sean? What happened to him? not just that day when he was picked up at 11 years old but...all the days, weeks, months, years....4 whole years of being treated like a son, slave, abused person no one knows but the man who stole him from his family....and the man who stole his LIFE....

Who would trade places with Shawn ....and go through whatever he had to suffer through...I don't think we would put our hands up!

I hope he gets all the therapy he needs and people will respect him and honor him so he gets the best of care mentally and physically. Plus the man who kept him this long gets a fair trial and one that punishes him for the worst crime anyone can do to a innocent child.

Sincerely,
Mama Jazzy Geri

Good question as he was obviously free to do so, his kidnapper worked 2 jobs and left him alone to do what he wanted. The boy had a cellphone, access to a computer (even had his own websites), had friends and even was driving the kidnapper's truck.
Some attribute the refusal to escape even when able to do so to "Stockholm syndrome", a form of brain-washing in which kidnapped victims eventually embrace the beliefs of their captors.
Looks like Shawn was free to return home should he wanted to do so.
Makes sense to plan and escape then contact police and the kidnapper goes to prison for the rest of his life - can't hurt anyone from behind bars.

Today's St. Louis Post Dispatch says Devlin threatened to kill him and his entire family if he ever tried to flee.
