Hi, I recently crack my headers in a small accident and now need new ones. Now im shopping online for some but not sure if they are legal in the state i live which is California. Some terms Im not sure about and i hope you guys can help me out.

1.What does it mean when it says carb excempt? Is it legal in CA?

2. When its says "legal in 50 states" does that mean it's carb approved (comes with eo number)?

I would also like suggestion of what type of headers I should get to pass smog in california. This would be most appreciated. (I pefer a not so expensive one since I am a starving college student >_< ).

thanks alot.

Here's the deal there, starving student…
If you live in California, and want your car to pass its emissions inspection, look for anything you can afford that is 50 state legal, and has an EO (Executive Order) number either stamped into a tag welded onto the header where it is clearly visible to the smog tech, or supplies a sticker or other acceptable paperwork attesting to the legality of the headers.
Place the decal on the underside of the car's engine bay, near the VECI label. Or place the paperwork in a plastic sandwich bag with the owner's manual in the glove box, and keep a photocopy of it somewhere in a safe place.
If it states that it is CARB exempt, fan it, it won't pass inspection.
This goes for all other mode as well. If it doesn't have an identifying label, decal or prominent EO number, it is going to require replacement, or the long way around, a trip to the referee.

"Ironhand" told you "WHAT" you need to look for. May I suggest "WHERE" to look for it. "Summitracing.com"! They have an extensive inventory of speed related parts, and can supply you with the legal headers ( from several manufacturers) you want plus the gaskets, header bolts, etc. Their warehouse is in Sparks, Nevada so shipping is a 2nd day event anywhere in California. And if you need to return something, they don't hassle you like some places do.
