The "native" girls vary a lot, and there's a lot of racial blending in Hawaii, too. Some might like you, some might not, though it's probably going to go just beyond the color of your skin (and theirs). You can stick out like a sore thumb if you just think of yourself as a white Army guy and leave it at that -- the military component might work against you in particular. You'll do better if you study the history of the islands a bit, get involved in cultural events, etc. Hawaii can have a bit of a controversial past, and it could continue to get interesting in the future with Hawaiians getting recognized as a sovereign "nation" much like American Indians and native Alaskans. Do also keep in mind that things like family and church can matter more in Hawaii than other places -- I'd be careful about pursuing casual dating on a relatively small island, if you know what I mean. And Nicole Scherzinger is a Filipino, Russian, and Hawaiian mix who moved to Kentucky at age six. No, beyond the likelihood of racial blending, I don't know that you should consider her "representative" of "Hawaiian girls." At the bare minimum, most aren't going to be quite so blatantly flamboyant and attention-seeking. Anyway, I'd start doing a lot of historical / cultural reading first and foremost. It can go a long way. Learning some Japanese probably isn't a bad idea either. And oh, don't forget there are a lot of "native" white girls these days, too. Get that reading done and your whole understanding of "the natives" is likely to shift.
