We went for our first apt, and at the ultra sound lady said we were 11 wks along, but our ob said the day before that we were about 14 wks along, But at any rate, At the ultra sound the babys heart rate was 166 bpm. We were looking up some info and fact online and found that the ordinary unborn baby at that stages bpm was 135-150 bpm. I know it is just a few beat higher than that, is this any cause for concern or what? My OB is out on maternity leave and wednesday i get to meet my temp ob. Should i wait to ask her or what. this is my first, so maybe i am just being paranoid

just remember that all pregnancies and babies are different.
If the ob that saw you showed no signs of concern--there isnt any reason to be worried.

babies rate could have just been higher that day + the u/s usually shakes baby up a bit especially if the person doing it has to 'poke' around a lot.

having a rate in the 160's is pretty normal, I had my first one at 12 or 13 weeks and my baby had a higher rate too.
she is fine and due anyday now.

Absolutely! That's a very strong heartbeat! A good, strong, healthy heartbeat for an unborn baby at any stage of pregnancy is between 110bpm and 180bpm. Anything below 100bpm is when the OB and midwives begin to worry. Congrats!!

When I first heard my son's heartbeat it was in the 160's and the doctor just told me that the heartbeat is usually higher in the beginning of a pregnancy and not to worry. His heartbeat is always in the 130's and 140's now. If your doctor was concerned I am sure they would have said something.

Talk over your concerns at your next doctor appointment. It will be a good way to start a relationship with your new doctor. I know you must have some misgivings about having to switch, I know I did when my daughter as late arriving, and my doctor retired. I went in one day to meet the new IB/GYN, and discovered that in the 40th week, my daughter had turned breech, and I was scheduled for a c-section by the doctor I had just met. Your doctor is the one you should be talking to. Talk to her/him.

It is probly fine =) my son's was always 150+ when I was pregant with him. If you are very concerned about it you can request a fetal echocardiogram ( ultrasound on the heart ) but it is probly nothing =)

Some midwives say that a faster heartbeat is a boy and slower heartbeat is a girl.
