Depends like who the email address is with jus ask on the site of whoever the email address site is.

Getting rid of ur e mail address depends upon your type of e mail.
If it is a free mail account such as hotmail, yahoo mail or rediffmail etc then stop attending your account it will automatically expire after a period of time. If it is a paid e mail address then request that organisation to clos that account.

whatever company you go to there should be a place you can go to cancel it or you might have to email them and tell them you want to cancel it. Somewhere on your email account there will be a HELP section and just look to see what they have and you should find your answer...

check the website where you have the account you wish to get rid of for information on how to delete or cancel your account, or contact customer service.
