Add 7 to both sides:
4a - 7 + 7 = 1 + 7
4a = 8

Divide both sides by 4:
4a/4 = 8/4
a = 2

I'm not sure what the equation is. is it 4a-7=1 ? if so
add 7 to each side
4a=8 divide both sides by 4
a=2

D.) a = 2

or is it
(4a-7)/22=1 ? if so multiply both sides by 22
4a-7=22 add 7 to each side
4a=29 divide both sides by 4
a=7.25 which isn't on the list so I assume my 1st interpretation was correct.

Use rules of add/sub/div/mult.

Add 7 to both sides, which leaves 4a = 8
Divide both sides by 4, which leaves a = 2

Use the reverse of PEMDAS to undo equations.

4a-7 = 1

add 7 to both sides

4a=8

divide both sides by 2

a=2

so D is the correct answer.

An alternative approach given that the test is multiple choice is to try each answer

A) 4x3-7 = 5 so not correct
B) 4x1-7 = -3 so not correct
C) 4x4-7= 9 so not correct
D) 2x4-7=1 so correct
