Sometimes punishments aren't fair because you don't get to speak how you feel. For instance, I have tried to drop a class that I was getting a D in (and I'm a straight A student!). The teacher was really bad and when I talked to my counselor about it, the principals were involved, and they refused to believe what I was saying. I managed to finally drop the class, and I got an A with another teacher. My point is, if I had not spoken out, what would have happened? Is there really freedom of speech at schools?

yes of course.. everybody is entitled for freedom of speech.. you have the right to express yourself.. you have every right to share your opinions, ideas, or whatsoever.. so don't be afraid, stand tall, and say whatever it is that's bothering you..

The Supreme Court has issued multiple decisions that allow schools to place limits on speech and other rights for students. For example, certain t-shirts with obscene slogans may be banned despite the First Amendment. Search and seizure of student property is also performed differently and more freely by school officials despite the Fourth Amendment. The reason for this is to allow schools to restrict expression or behavior that disrupts the learning environment for others. Also, it's well established that no right is absolute, and minors routinely face restrictions that adults do not have when it comes to rights. If you bring up God in an intellectual context, I believe this should be permitted on a limited basis. However, due to the sensitivity some apparently suffer when discussing or hearing about religion, and due to schools' broad prohibitions on discussing God in response to sensitivity of others, the school may restrict your speechj. You do not have general freedom of speech in school. I believe you would lose this argument. But I would encourage you to seek clarification from the school on what is allowed.

Of course not. You found that out. Freedom of speech is available in very few places, especially since 9/11. It's always advisable to think before you speak, and edit your speech to conform to the rules of the place you inhabit. Also, the more vocabulary you learn, the more likely you are to be able to say what you want to say without getting in trouble. By the time they figure out what you've said, you're gone, or at least safe!

sometimes yes and sometimes no. It depends on where you are haha and also, there may be freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean they'll listen to you, yanno? -_- it's stupid, but what can you do? Congrats on finally being able to drop the class though!

Yes...unless you have a conservative viewpoint. That's what I have found out. Everybody else can speak their minds, but then I speak up with my conservative viewpoints and everybody, including the professors, want me to shut up and try to make me feel stupid.
