Okay this is an odd question. I know second hand smoke is bad, but I am in a huge dilemma. I do not smoke and I do not go over to my father in law who smokes. However, we live in apartments and the people below us smoke. Somehow the smoke permeates to the top to our apartment. Can someone suggest ways to keep the smoke from entering our apartment? What would the risk of secondhand smoke be if there is the smell? I am 11 weeks and 2 days pregnant. We can't break our lease but do you think we might have to move? I know these are long winded questions but my concerns are for my unborn child. I am not ignorant of the risks, but I wasn't sure whether there would be a greater threat and what your opinions were on the issue.

Try talking to your neighbors... surely they would understand. If not.. try sealing your apartment, under doors windows and such. Maybe call your landlord about this. I saw a news story recently where a couple is not allowed to smoke near their own apartment anymore because it was getting in neighbors apartments. They had to go like 20 feet away.

dont kill anyone, but it cant hurt to ask the people below you to smoke outside. Explain you dont want your baby exposed. If they dont stop and they are not willing to work with you, involve your landlord, otherwise keep your house well ariated, with good venelation and maybe purchase one of those in-home air purifiers but not it fool proof its not a good thing to be around.
