It depends a lot on how many people you are going to have....make sure you really enforce the RSVP. If you send the invites out and still haven't heard from everyone ten days later....start calling to get a head count!! I hate that people don't RSVP.....it's rude because then the hostess has to waste money on food no one will wind up eating!! Argh!

Theme: Try to match it up with what mommy prefers. Does she have a theme going on with the layette or nursery? Does she have a favorite animal? Is there a cute animal nickname for the little person in her tummy (we always called our first daughter Monkey....) Whatever you pick as the theme....people may look to that on the invitiation to guide them in their purchases (if they are, let's say, deciding between the outfit with the giraffe or the puppy. They may go with the giraffe if you had a safari theme going on the invite!!)

Here are some great themes:
Safari
Frogs (This is going to be BIG this year!!!)
Puppies
Butterflies
Dragonflies
Ducks (Always popular.....)
Noah's Ark (A Classic....)
Lullabies

Anywho...here are some ways to cut down the cost.....

Have the shower at 3pm. Too late for lunch, too early for dinner. Serve veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, and little sandwiches. Punch. Cake. All of that should be under $60.00 if the shower isn't with a huge amount of people!!!

Keep the games simple and sentimental. They will last longer....and guests will be more entertained. I just put a link on my website with games that are sentimental and sweet....because I think that, sometimes, baby showers are becoming overly silly. People are coming to the shower to express their love over this baby----not to eat chocolate out of a diaper!!!

Keep the decorations simple. Get a Diaper Cake (ruthless plug....). Centerpiece and your gift to mom all rolled into one. Get some helium balloons. Go to a party store and get a cute banner!! Maybe even get a diaper wreath for the front door?? Burn a CD with great music for background. Songs that are about kids and having kids:

The Riddle, Five for Fighting
I Hope You Dance, Leann Womack
Baby of Mine, Alison Kraus
Wonderful World, Louis Armstrong
Return to Pooh Corner, Kenny Loggins
When You Love Someone, Brian Adams
Teach The Children Well, Crosby Stills and Nash
Lullabies, too!!!

It's not about how much you spent....it's about the love you expressed!!! Set the tone for sentiment....and this is sure to be a shower to be remembered. Just because you spend a lot of money doesn't mean anything!!!

Good luck and Have Fun!!

Not more than $30-50, including food, plates, cups, plastic forks, napkins and some decorations. Pink, yellow, green, and blue tissue paper makes great flowers, and streamers always add a lot of color for little money. I would get a smaller cake, see if you can find a style that has small servings, with a little trinket on each piece. That way the cake goes farther, everyone gets a little something, but there won't be a lot of wasted cake.

I like to get M&M candies and pick out the pink and blue ones. Right now you can get the valentine colored ones. Maybe some cut up veggies and dip.

An easy punch is to take pink sherbet (girl) or yellow sherbet (boy), and some clear soda (Sprite). Put a quart of the sherbet into the punch bowl, break it up a little, then slowly pour the soda over it. It will foam up and turn a light pink or yellow. It tastes good and is inexpensive and easy. You will need two quarts of sherbet and about 4 2-liters of soda. Then have coffee and unsweetened tea. Really, this is all the food you need at a baby shower.

If the parents haven't picked a name, you could have a name that baby theme, with a "pin the name on the birth certificate" game, a trivia contest on naming children of famous people, who can create the longest name, funniest initials, the girliest name or most masculine name.

The last baby shower I gave, we had a contest about nursery rhymes, "guess what's in that diaper", and a diaper cake(easy to make, just wind disposable diapers around each other until you get the size layer you want. Then do another layer and set it on top of the first. Decorate with rattles, small bottles of powder, soap, etc. ointment, pacifiers and safety pins. Put a bow on top, there's your gift and a centerpiece).

Have fun!

My baby shower cost $700 for 25 guests for a luncheon at a country club... the favors were $40 total. The invitations were about $30.. It also depends if you will be serving alcohol. We didn't.. my shower was on a Sunday afternoon.. if you have it on a Saturday evening then you would probably want to serve wine. If you're on a budget, have a friend host it at her house and ask the guests to bring a favorite dish.

I'm throwing my friend a baby shower in April. I haven't really figured my budget yet. But we are doing it outside at a park under a pavilion and since she is having a boy I will decorate the pavilion in blue and boy stuff, but we are having a small get together so I hope not to spend too much on decor and food b/c I still have to buy her a gift too LOL. Good Luck though, hope that helps.

Go to costco or smart & final get one sandwich tray per 8 people get lemonade powder make and fruit cocktail make a jello mold of lemonade and fruit cocktail (no jello) and freeze or use tupperwere make like 5 of these and use in the punch bowl. Use cooking spray so they will come out.
Get mixed veggies. Also go to a party store and buy wedding bubbles some places have little babies on top. Make labels with "Guess who?" And the due date. On cost I used to do parties and you can have a great baby shower for under $60.00! Do a pot luck. Also costco has cakes and you can decorate with little babies with blue & pink pampers. Get these at the party store. E-mail me if you want more tips

It depends on how many people are attending the baby shower. Make a list of how many are coming then try to figure out there favorite foods or just cook alot of food and hope they will eat it. Maybe try Boy or Girl for a theme (Make it blue and pink if you don't know the sex of the unborn child)

It's not about the spending, it's about the games. I spent around $30 on the shower I threw and people are still talking about how much fun it was! (And it was 8 months ago.)

as for food--you can do potluck where everyone brings something--it's always best to make quick simple things yourself rather than buy them.

for theme-I'd get whatever was on sale at the store-invite wise.
as for the rest-it depends on boy or girl.
