I am African and I've been privileged to come out of poverty. What did this for me was a change of my mentality through studying God's word.
Poverty is Africa won't be solved by giving us more money... It needs a two-pronged approach...
1. To change how people see themselves... If they think of themselves as poor and incapable, so shall they be... If they think of themselves as being able to trounce poverty then they'd make it...
2. Give us opportunity... Make it easier to access education, health and markets for our products... and see what we can do...
Cheers

To be honest, if I'm a rich especially a millionaire, I would be donating generously to the African every year! Too bad, I'm not capable enuf. Well, in my opinion, the government of other countries should help by donating foods, clothes, books and stuffs to this people. There should be an organization that also collect 2nd hand goods to be transported to the Africa country. These people are so poor and pitiful. Come to think of it, we should actually find out if there's such an organization and we could pitch in by donating things that we don't use anymore (but in a good condition). Hmmm....I think I'll surf the net abt that now!

Africa is a huge continent. It is composed of so many different countries and not all of them have the same problems. In general, I would say that the main contributing factors to Africa's "poorness" is corrupt governments, unstable political regimes, ravaging health problems such as hiv and the gap between Africa and developped countries. I think developped countries are willing to help however the bad overshadow the good. There is a lot of money to be made selling guns to conflict -ravaged countries. Africa itself is full of resources that are misused (e.g: "blood diamond" shows how certain countries posess diamonds that are used to fund wars). People in order to help Africa should get rid of money hungry dictators that care about money and neglect the people, also whoever is selling guns to countries that can barely sustain themselves should be punished.

The poorness of Africa is it's own fault.
Maybe if all these rich countries STOP sending aid, Africa might start to do something for itself instead of being a drain on the world economy and giving nothing back.

It's a very complicated topic. There seem to be a lot of power and ethnic struggles in some African countries. The richer world nations just want the resources of the lands; caring very little of the fates of the people and their cultures. It's sad really. I can't see major changes on the positive side; perhaps small victories and changes in smaller scales.

i think if all the rich countries (America included) gave Africa grants without putting too many conditions, perhaps Africa could catch up. The (rich countries) could try and import more from Africa.

Education.. people need to stop fighting and do everything to get educated.. it will open up more avenues. .stop other from exploiting your country and bring in more opportunities to be entreprenaurs... Look what one Nelson Mandela could do.. imagine every country in Africa having one each...
