for example, the other day, I returned an unopened DVD without a receipt. They said I must use my store credit in the same dept as the DVD....i.e. electronics. I told them I thought their ploicy was very restrictive and I asked for an explanation for their policy. I was told that in "the spirit of gift giving", the giver would like me to choose my "new" gift from the same type of merchandise.

Bull! It should have been store credit just not cash! If it was bought within 90 days they can look it up. My best friend is the Manager at target. Go on line to target.com and make a complaint

Is it just electronics, or all departments? My guess is that they are trying to prevent people from swiping electronics and returning them for cash or other products.

YES THAT RULE IS STUPID. i returned pajamas and i HAD to pick out pajamas. its like im buying what i return!!!! i couldnt pick out maybe some other type of clothing like a sweater or jeans...its HAD to be pjs. ugghhhh yess its a crazy rule.
