I am very conscience of, and polite to non-smokers, I was thinking that if more smokers were like me, we wouldn't have so much anti-smoking propaganda and legislation, then it occurred to me that the people really pressing the issue are fanatics, not as bad as islamic extremists, but fanatics none the less. Does this mean we will have to deal with them until there are no more smokers?

right on the mark there my friend.
i am a smoker too, but i do not like when other smokers smoke in my face, so i exert conscious effort not to irritate (i can't find the right word) other people, specially the none smokers.

my point is, i know it's filthy, unhealthy, and etc. (one friend even told me smoking causes pregnancy, haha!), and I would quit if only I could, but while i'm still on it, let me know if i bother you and i'll move... other than that leave me alone! to them i say: i'm a 33 year old adult, who earns for my living, pays my taxes, and is generally a good citizen - let me die on my chosen vice. i promise i won't blame you if i do die. =)

Extremists? Smoking isn't religion, baby.

It was thought long ago that smoking mainly harmed the smoker. Now it has been proved that second hand smoke is deadly. Is the smoker in essence attacking the non-smoker simply by indulging in this habit? You betcha.

I know smokers don't like to think of it that way, but it's true. And it isn't propaganda if it is true.

It's the health care system that suffers as well, trying to repair the damage done by smoking or at least make it manageable.

I hope you don't think me too harsh, but my heart has been broken by emphysema and heart disease.

So, really, it's your lungs. Just don't decide the fate of the non-smokers around you.

You will regret lighting up no matter what.

even if there were no smokers, there will always be people who will always have SOMETHING to be fanatic about even if they really don't care about the issue, it's like they need that to make their life worthwhile
