I joined a gym and had to stay away for a couple days because I worked myself hard the first couple days there. I am going back tomorrow but I need other ideas to do other than smoke (or eat). I really am trying hard not to start again.

nurse: Thanks for your answer. I do knit and realize I have to find more craft projects and things like that. I have knitted so many scarves this week alone that if i rolled them up and shot them into space scientists would be going crazy about the discovery of another planet.

I quit some time ago and it was very difficult. In the end, I came to this conclusion and it got me through. I craved cigs when I smoked and craved them when I became a nonsmoker. It's true when you think about it. So, why smoke if as a smoker you crave them just as much as when you are a nonsmoker? Stay positive, darlin. That's the key.

As for a few extra pounds, make the effort to munch on carrots and celery instead of anything else. Stay with it and stay positive. Working out helps as well. Don't let your addiction trick you into thinking you need a smoke because you do NOT. Good luck. You can do it.

Just try some simple things then... like instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. Instead of going out to eat, pack a lunch. Instead of driving short distances, try walking. A way to stop the urge to smoke again, try chewing on some gum. It helps with your oral fixation and cuts back on eating too. It's great that you are trying to become healthier. Applauds on the change in life. Good luck with everything.

I started making craft projects that kept my hands and mind busy to get me over the hump of not-smoking. I can proudly say I have made several dream catchers, fleece blankets, and started quilting. I enjoy making the projects for gifts too. Good luck I know you can do it! Keep your hands and mind busy and you won't think about food!
