The feed is something a blogger or webmaster produces to deliver content to readers using subscriptions. The content is usually the text from stories but can also contain podcasts or videos.

The RSS feed is accessed with a feed reader. Instead of the user having to always check a website, they can "subscribe" to a feed and see what's new.

The raw files aren't pretty to look. They're similar to HTML in that they have tags defining the content. You really need the reader to add the nice presentation. Some of the newer browsers include built in RSS readers such as IE 7. Others are web based such as Google Reader.
