It was based on actual events and when I get the proof I'll update ya

The movie was based on sheriff Buford Pusser from Adamsville,Tennessee. McNairy County to be exact.

Meanwhile, back in Adamsville, Buford's father as Chief of Police, was having health problems. At the same time, Buford began to feel a 'tug at his heart' to return to the slower pace of life of McNairy County. So Buford packed up his family, which had now grown to include a new baby girl, Dwana, and moved back to Adamsville. Health problems continued to plague Carl and he was forced to resign as Chief of Police. The town council hired Buford and thus began his law enforcement career.

1962 elected constable.

1964 elected Sheriff of McNairy County.

Shot eight times.

Knifed seven times.

Fought off six men at once, sending three to jail and three to the hospital.

Destroyed 87 whiskey stills in 1965 alone.

Killed two people in self-defense.

Hopped on the hood of a speeding car, smashed the window and subdued the man who had tried to run over him.

Served three consecutive terms as McNairy Sheriff.

His biography is actually pretty interesting, you should check it out at

No. This remake of Walking Tall all but lost the original story and history. The real Sheriff was Buford Pusser. For his story watch the violent original Walking Tall movie. Walking Tall Part 2 was pretty good. Walking Tall: The Final Chapter wasn't as good but that's because the real Bufford Pusser was murdered in real life by the very people who were the real bad guys in the movies. That's how REAL the first movies were! Then comes along this remake with The Rock. The Rock is so insecure, he made them change Bufford Pussers name to 'Chris Vaughn'. Probally because in real life (and in the original films) the bad guys called Bufford by the 'nickname' of 'Bufford *****' and I guess The Rock couldn't handle those acting requirements...lol The real Sheriff shuts down a casino and bootlegging camps. He did use a big stick to kick butt with. Now, in my humble opinion, and I LOVED the first films and have great respect for the real Sheriff Bufford Pusser, even though they failed miserably at telling Pusser's story, the remake with The Rock is still a fun entertaining movie. Just don't think for a minute you're seeing anything of fact. It's called Walking Tall in name only. Sorry, I can't remember the Tennessee county it really happened in.
