from naruto to inuyasha, it just seems to get more dull and plotless, anyone else noticing it as well?

Mainstream, as in America? Yeah, because they edit the hell out of them. It amused me that they never showed the last season or so of Sailor Moon because it involved crossdressing or somesuch. No, I didn't see it.
In response to some of the previous answers, anime is vastly different from domestic animation. It is not just for satire.
Also, Fullmetal Alchemist is not so much boring, as just so complicated and subtle that to really understand it you have to see it all twice. It's also very much a political statement about the events leading up to and following the Holocaust, in case no one caught the parallel with Ishbal and Israel.
I agree, though, about Naruto. It is pretty good, but very edited in the english version. I hardly noticed until I noticed that at the appearance of oiroke Naruto, all the nosebleeds were cut out (i.e. Iruka). Unfortunately, from about episode 130, there's nothing but filler that develops more in the minor characters than in the plot itself. I quit around 165.
And it is fun to find the "diamonds in the rough" as was mentioned. It just takes some time.
I actually quit watching tv about 3 months ago, so I have no idea what's actually showing these days.

Yeah, with all of the filler episodes, i am more disappointed in inu-yasha, it has a great love story but it seemed to be endless, on the contrary, naruto was improving, all those those plot less scenes were just the missions but the new naruto:naruto hurricane chronicles, this is what naruto fans have been waiting for...
the MAIN PLOT ( as my friends say) of the said anime comes in this series, try watching it!

A really good anime to watch right now is Bleach ... not the Cartoon Network dubbed ones. Naruto is good too (not the fillers -____-) but yeah. Bleach has a lot of action and humor. even the fillers are good. The movie for it came out recently. The trailer looks excellent! Another good thing about Bleach is that the fillers just ended :) This week episode 111 will be out!

First of all let me say Naruto Part 2, also known as Naruto: Hurricane Chronicles, starts on February 15th until then I have to stick with the fillers, but the last episode 216 which was released january the 11th was ok at least i got to see Gaara. Anyways Being a Naruto Fan and naruto being famously known for fillers, i can tell you from experience that exploring for a new shows to keep your love for anime alive is very important. i realized long time ago that if a person loves anime then they must search for new intriguing shows to make things exciting. couple of years ago i was feeling the same way, i was fed up with all the shows having the same old storyline, it made me sick. even when the plot is predictable the creators tease you with fillers as if you can't figure out what will happen! ......then......one day.....i came across a new anime series that started during that time (2005)...and it is called "Gantz" there is no feeling better than getting hooked to a storyline for the every first time, and falling in love with every character, their trails and tribulations, their rise from a defeat, but most of all....there is no feeling better than being at the edge of your seat at each episode. In 2005 i definately decided to give up on anime, but thanks to "Gantz" i didn't loose my love for anime.

yeah but it just make it more fun looking for the diamonds in the rough. or the avant garde animes.
oh it's not so much as disappointing as it is I know i've seen this somewhere before.

This may be a jump but try reading mangas, the source material for most if not all animes. I recently started reading Planetes and it's pretty good.

I don't think so. Maybe you only watch little anime, you can't judge it from only few anime. But, for some anime, that can true, i already watch many animes and some times get dissappointed with one of it.

I find that the more anime I watch the bigger loser I become. Seriously, relax and watch Family Guy or South Park instead. You might actually find a female who watches those too.
