We don't worship these people, contrary to what the media wants to sell us. The media tells us to worship them as it sells magazines and creates silly VH-1 shows. I'd say a huge majority of America has lost interest in Hollywood and what it is trying to sell the American people.

It's not just in the West; India's Bollywood and Hong Kong's stars are just as celebrated.
Anyway, the celebrity thing really took off when broadcasting and movies started. The first syllable is still what it's about: "cel"ebrities sell. They make a lot of money for media, so media pump 'em.

Perhaps it's because they've decided to expose their lives to the rest of the world. It's that huge leap that differentiates them from us "normal" folks. As we watch them, some of us will eventually keep following them in envy, in awe, and in the hopes that we, too, may take that leap even from our vantage points.
Celebrities all over the world, not only in the western world, take center stage. It doesn't matter if they deserve it or not. There are some who are deserving of the accolades and attention but we have to remember that they are still essentially human just like everyone else. They, too, have their foibles and certainly are capable of error. Therefore, they may be admired, but not idolized. This is where we, the public, egged by commercialism and capitalism, have erred.

I know! They are just your average people, hyped up to be really fantastic. Some people are really talented, but I think the most talented people go very much unnoticed.
You know those people that work in the pediatric ward with children that are dying? Yeah ... ok now who do we see on TV everyday?

I, for one do not and never will worship any celebrity. It is the media forcing them down our throats. It is an invasion of privacy on the so called celebs, and the paparazzi should be outlawed.

They have everything most people want: fame, fortune, beauty.
Many people (men) find Britney beautiful. I don't get it though. I think she's unintelligent, untalented, and overrated.
