I think there's a song in that idea! Oh, no, wait: John Lennon wrote something like it a couple of decades ago already. :-)

The next day there would be a really huge war because they were all faking each other out the previous day with that jive about no more war and military. By the way Warren G Harding did just that after WWI and then came along a not-so-nice guy named Hitler. Funny how the random maniac has away of dealing a death blow to the best laid plans of people who do not understand human nature.

No military, no defense. No defense? NO WAY.

But, suppose it does happen. Pros: no ugly way of human death caused by wars. woohoo, peace and love... yeah right

Death caused by war is a TINY (note the ironic large letters) amount of dead people.

Cons: none really, but we wouldn't be human would we?
haha, actually we experienced the cons in world war 1, after the war, economy got screwed and the US, Europe etc, they all felt the hit: global economic downfall. Wars are necessary for the economy of many nations, and the stability of various despotic governments. Thus wars never will stop. Not because of defense, because money must move. There have to be people to sell weapons to.

I can see it now (no I Can not) we all lay down our arms and Andorra(the slick mountain folk hid their guns) takes over Europe. Hay if any one ever had an argument for "lebensraum" these people are it. It is not going to happen. Mankind having a fallen nature will not ever improve that nature. At best he will take up his cross daily and strive against himself with mixed results and at worst he will become a Hitler or Ted Bundy. There will be no peace until God throught Christ recreates the world anew.

as you say, assuming all the countries dropped their weapons/destroyed them..........would you still feel good knowing that at any given moment someone can break the truce, attack your country, and kill your fellow countrymen, wife, kids, siblings, etc......all because they decided to either lie and keep a few weapons or make new ones?
your idea sounds nice in theory....almost something from Sesame street or Mister Rogers, but in real life it's a dumb idea.

A lot of people would be unemployed. This would lead to wide spread civil unrest, more arrests, more court cases and hence more lawyers. Obviously not a good idea.

My guess would be that some country out there would secretly develop weapons so that they can take over the most powerful country of the world (US)
