My gas wall heater's pilot went out and it's 10 at night and freezing and need any tips on where the pilot is usually located and if I turn the knob to on, off, or pilot, etc.
Thanks!

there is a panel near the bottom of the furnace. you will see a knob and depending how old the furnce a button to lite it, just like the button on a barbeque. turn the knob to off and wait 5 - 10 minutes for any gas fumes to leave. turn the switch to 'pilot' or 'low' push the lite button or use matches. Once it lights keep it on low for about 30 seconds then turn the rest of the way to 'high'.

If you can't find the instructions on the front, look for a small panel several inches square. It will have two screws holding it on. Take these off, look in the inside of this opening, you should see the thermocouple that you may have to use a long stem lighter to get at. These also have a habit of blowing the pilot out all the time due to excess draft with the short chimney or vent opening. I've had to cover the outside vent with a blanket,as per factory rep. and then light the furnace, don't forget the blanket.

take the panel cover off, near the bottom you will see the burners, the pilot light will be near the burners at the front. Turn the knob to pilot push it in and hold it. Light the pilot, continue holding the button in for one minuet after the pilot lights. Release the knob and the pilot should stay on. Turn the valve to on, and set the thermostat to come on.

There are two gas lines coming out of the control valve: the larger one connects to the burner; the smaller one connects to your pilot light.

At the opposite end of that pilot light connection is your pilot. This is where you put your match and continue to hold the red button.

I know you need long matches for it...but I never did it. When I had a gas heater, if the pilot went out I went outside and looked for which of my neighbors were still awake, and just borrowed their husband to light the pilot for me.

There should be a panel that comes off with instructions printed on the back. If you're not comfortable call a handy-person so you don't blow yourself up.
