Try getting a snake hook. This will help you take him out with less stress to him and yourself. Once he is on the hook and calmed down try picking him off with your hand. Eventually they will get used to your touch and you will be able to take him out with just your hand.

Snakes should eb left alone for a week or two to let them settle in, they can stress out and be quite grumpy otherwise. DOn't handle it until it has taken a meal from you and then ease into the relationship.
If you NEED to move the snake in the mean time I reccomend a snake hook for now. Gloves might not be a good idea because snakes don't just bite hands they will bite your face given the chance if they are grumpy.
GIve it time and when you can handle him, do it as often as possible (giving him a couple days alone after eating and while in shed).

well for starts the jungle carpet python isn't the nicest reptile to own.. i've had a few run ins with them that i'd like to forget... the bites may not hurt as a baby.. but as it gets bigger it will cut you up pretty good.. but if you want to keep it then there are a few things that you can do.

- feed it dead mice... you can freeze mice and then thaw them in warm water to get them at the appropriate temp for the snake to eat... this will eliminate the connection with movement and food making it less likely that the snake will mistake your hand for food

- get a snake hook... this will get the snake more used to human contact and being picked up without you get bit

- rubber cleaning gloves.. make sure you get new ones, as old ones could have chemicals on them.. but these are really great.. for one, depending on the size of the snake, it prob won't be able to bite through it.. and secondly, snakes hate the taste of rubber gloves.. it will eventually learn through basic reinforcement that everytime it tries to bite you, it will get a horrible taste in it's mouth.

You should have asked about them before buying this thing. Every carpet Steve Irwin picked up bit him, so that should be a clue right there. Carpets are NASTY snakes as far as temper goes. The pet store I help out at from time to time has a pair of them. The only time you can safely handle them is when they've got a rat blocking their mouth, then you have to watch it because they'll spit the rat out if you don't wait long enough.

This is yet another reason to learn as much as you can about your new pet before you get a new pet, anyone who has owned carpets could probably have pointed you away from them if you wanted a mellow snake.

Good luck.

Wear a t-shirt for two days straight and then let your snake live with it in its aqaurium. It will become very familiar and comfortable with your scent. Before you pick him up blow your breath in his space and every time you pass his cage except when you feed him.
