You will actually have 2 sources for the noise... several have already mentioned heat expansion... The other source is the blower fan itself.... the furnace is actually pressurizing the ductwork, causing it to flex, as air is forced into it.
You can verify how much of the noise you hear is from heat expansion, and how much is due to pressurization, by turning on the furnace fan, without the heat, and listening.
This is a "cosmetic" problem... by that, I mean, it is not a safety issue, there is nothing wrong with your ductwork, just becuase it makes some noise... that's the nature of the beast, so to speak.
If it is really annoying you... call an HVAC company, and ask for some alternatives......high temp pvc, heavy gauge steel, flexible duct, ...or... you might consider some noise reduction products, like these:
http://www.controlnoise.com/noisy_pipes.html -- a manufacturer of an exterior wrap, to help reduce pipe/duct noise
http://www.hometips.com/home_probsolver/hps06/04_forcedair/hps_heat13.html -- This site suggests that you go along your ductwork, and actually put a small dent in the side, to make it more rigid, and suggests that you look for a loose flap of ductwork.
http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/tvprograms/asktoh/qaarticle/0,16588,1131823,00.html -- Richard Trethewey of This Old House, in this answer on a similar questions suggests, among other things, some duct liners.
READ the above links... they have some good tips, and hopefully they will give you some ideas to pursue.
Good Luck!

Cause : As the metal duct work heats up it expands causing popping this is caused by the exterior of the duct work be cooler than the inside temp.
Solution : A bit pricey but if it is unbearable you could have a furnace installer come out and change the duct work to flexible duct pipe usally used in attics and walls on newer installations and your furnace can be adapted to use this type duct, This will completely solve your problem of erie sounds coming from your attic.

It could just be that when the heat hits that particular part of the duct it just causes it to like expand and then it pops

I beg to differ with Jimbo, I have both flex and rigid ducts, there is less noise but still movement, nothing to worry about.

HEAT makes all materials to expand from their cold state and make noises. Nothing you can fix and nothing to worry about if you can get used to it.
