In the USA it is a federal holiday in honor of Dr. Kings birthday. I have never gotten the day off. If you get most other federal holidays off, Christmas, 4th of july, labor day, etc but don't get this one off why is that and what is it you do?

I did for the college I work at, but not the corporation. Interestingly, my boyfriend got the day off at HIS corporation. Go figure.

I asked a question about this before, and I didn't get many responses. I'm kind of curious why some businesses give this off to their employees while others don't. I can tell you why my company didn't: they are greedy. They charged us for our holiday "gift."

If they could find a way to turn a profit on Christmas, they'd stay open. I hate them.

Anyway, as much as I want to honor Dr. King's memory, we don't get the day off for any other public figure's birthdays, so I can understand the logic on this.

I work in an office (not a retail store or something like that) and I was still required to come in. I don't understand. It's a legitimate holiday for crying out loud!!!
