Shawn was on myspace, is this where he might have come in contact with Ben? This story is just a little too strange. Something is not adding up here. I am not thinking that he was brainwashed. He had so much freedom. Maybe he met up with Devlin after he had ran away from home, so he just took him in. The reason I am thinking along these lines is because the story just seems to weird. It is one of those hmmmmm moments.

I'm glad other people are asking the same questions that I have asked. Something is fishy here. I am so blown away that so many "experts" are coming up with "professional" explanations for this obviously censored story. So much conjecture is reported as fact and accepted by an unthinking public caught up in runaway emotions. (For instance, it was initially reported that Devlin was a registered sex offender in Utah. This was found to be not true. Apparently, he has no criminal record.) Read between the lines people! Look at these kids' faces. Do they look as if they've been through the horrible trauma that is being suggested? I can't believe that the parents are so soon parading these boys in front of the cameras (albeit, not allowing them to take questions about what happened to them.) If I were a parent, I'd want privacy for my kid, not the spotlight. I'd thank the public for their concern and then enjoy a private, family and friends only, reunion. Hopefully the facts will come out in the trial.

NO. SHAWN HORNBECK DID NOT RUN AWAY. Haven't
you been watching the news? HE Lived with his mom and
stepdad in Missouri, he had a normal life, school, hanging
out with his friends and he even played little leage baseball.
He was riding his bike to one of his friends house on the
day he came up missing. An 11 year old boy (child) is not
going to run away from home and go live with a strange
man that he has never met before so he could have a little
freedom. Shawn's mom said that he was aware of everything
that parents tell there kids about strangers. My son is 14 and
I have told him and still to this day tell him to be careful. Also
they have found Porn on child Michael Devlin's computer. This
man hid Shawn for over a year in his apt. until the heat died
down. The landlord and neighbors said Devlin moved in the
apt. in 2002 and for the first couple of years nobody ever seen Shawn or Devlin with any kid. It was when Devlin signed his lease
for the third year that he added Shawn to it as
SON, SHAWN DEVLIN. He threatened that poor kid so much
so that he he blanked out any life he had. There is no telling
how much went on with him that might come out then again
Shawn might never talk about it.

Do you think that ths was some sort of adventure for him? I don't think so. The media has stated that while he was allowed to play and go on outings and such, he was terrified of the repercussion (from his captor) for trying to tell someone that he had been kidnapped. Otherwise, why would he go on the website and ask how long would you look for your son? The comment was also made that Shawn knew his parents were still looking for him by seeing his face on the advertising benches located at local grocery stores. For anyone to think that he ran away and stay in such conditions is unrealistic. Especially after everything these parents have done to prevent this from happening to other children in the community - fund raisers, assisting with searches, fingerprinting and photo sessions at no charge. This family deserves a lot of credit for not giving up on their son and ensuring that his face stayed out there in the media and helping other families when they needed their support (Abigale Woods Abduction last year in Lonedell, MO.). If I could only say on here what they should do to this man for robbing this boy of four years of his life away from his family, friends and educational opportunities........ I think you get the idea.

If you are referring to the comments in this link (Dec.1, 2005 2 comments made - one @ 1:59 AM & another just above it @ 2:56 PM) he used the last name Devlin.

Eerily one of those pictures shows Shawn outside the very apt bldg where he was found.
Others show a boy with piercings as well as a mole on his check which is similar to the Shawn now in interviews.
It is all sad whether it is sites set up by Michael Devlin to lure more kids or Shawn on a pc & not contacting his family.
Only God, Michael, Shawn & Ben know the truth & the boys & their families need our prayers.

New reports say that Shawn was taking by gun point. Now their is two count's of kidnapping. There is no way he ran away from home. Remember that Shawn was only 11 when he was taken. Who knows the mind games this guy played on him. I am sure at 11 years of age this jerk was very impressionable and believable on Shawn. This is in no way his fault. He is not to blame even if he did not try to run. Shawn is a survivor!

I believe those of you who are saying that Shawn could not have run away..are naive. Shawn seems to have a knowledge of the internet..and on the internet there are predators who lure children..with promises of freedom and material goods.
Every time I look at the boys..I just get a sense there is something we don't know...like how exactly they were taken. I can't wait to watch Oprah tomorrow to see if these questions are answered.
Also..what's with an 11-year-old having a piercing? (He had a piercing in the missing photo)Uh..isn't that age a little young for that? What's with the parents allowing that?

No I dont think he ran away.If it was that simple he could have went home a long time ago.Nothing about chid abduction "adds up".I thnk devlin was going to get rid of shawn soon, since he had a new victim. I'm just glad he (devlin)was caught before that happened.

He could have attempted whilst he used to be firstly abducted however later on the whole stopped attempting. What suprises me is as he grew older and extra mature he didn't discover that if he referred to as the law enforcement officials that they might get that fats load and placed him in the back of bars. I get the sensation Hornbeck began to benefit from the culture ie. no university, screw off all day play video video games. Maybe he had hindrance at residence who is aware of and didn't wish to return. The something I understand is that if I had been in that role I might had been outta there the primary danger I obtained.

Not a chance! You do know that they found another child in the apartment, right? Is this purely a coincidence? This child was kidnapped and the other child was most likely his replacement. Not everything is a conspiracy.

We should pray for this poor child, can you imagine what the remainder of his life will be like, never trusting people, always wondering about his safety..etc.

It appears that Erudite is a troll...first you think that conservatives are stunting your free speech, then you think that an 11 year old boy ran away with a pedophile. Get a clue.

When an adult tells a kid he can find and wreak havoc on him or his family just like these stupid horror movies or computer games, they believe him, because they are still in the unquestioning phase of life (TRUST NO ONE!). That guy should be swinging like Saddam, too bad he didn't live in Vermont, there he'd get off with counselling.
