Both: you must survive it so it doesnt live with you for the rest of your life, causing you to give up on love, but at the same time you must learn from that heartbreak and find out what caused it so you will not make that same mistake again.

Going through heartbreaks is like catching a cold.

Every time you catch and get over a cold, you are immune to that specific germ - thats why adults catch less colds - they have more immunities to more types of cold germs.

Every time someone breaks your heart (or even just jerks you around) you develop an immunity for falling for the same situation again.

You may go through another, different type of heartbreak in the future - but you are not going to go through the same one twice.

That is the pattern of life in this broken world.

(1) Initial life, (2) death, and (3) rising to a new and better life.

In Christianity, it is the creation, the fall, and the redemption.

A seed starts as a seed, then falls into the ground and dies, and then rises as the full grain.

In life we have a period of happiness, then there is the crisis where everything falls apart, then we rise to a new level of happiness and maturity.

Consider this passage from the book of Revelation.

This is from chapter 11 of Revelation.

They will not kill you (unless you kill yourself), but a lot of people come out bitter and hardened. So, the challenge is how to learn from them, and come out a better person.
