You don't.
The basic rule for liking/not liking someone is to guide yourself by your instinct. The first thing on mind is the truth.
Don't go thinking how he can change, he can't he won't. And by the way, men can be very persuasive in making you think what we want you to think.
I once tried going out with a girl who I thought I liked, but she is very shy, doesn't dance so well (not the big issue really), ahh in any case. I kept thinking of things like that, and thinking of how she compared to this other girl I really liked, but things didn't work out so well with this other girl I REALLY liked... In the end, I got drunk while in a party with her and I talked to her a lot, I knew she liked me a lot, and she became my girlfriend that day. But I realized I didn't like her.
Talk about screwing up BIG TIME...
Take my terrible example for what not to do, I learned my lesson, when you like someone, you'll know and you'll be sure. It doesn't always make someone happy being in a relationship, it makes both happy when the relationship is real.

you have to anylize the person how he/she act with his/her friends and how he/she act with you, if he/she act differently then his/her friends could mean the he/she likes you, or either he/she hate you
