What is the difference between safe sex and safer sex?

(This is why abstainence-only ed should be abolished. That and it convinced me, a lesbian, that I was bound for hell.)

#1 -- Yep. Sucks, doesn't it?

#2 -- Just throwing my opinion out there. It shouldn't be that confusing.

#3 -- Har har. I'm not THAT naive.

the original "safe sex", as i understand it, is old terminology that was replaced by safer sex.

contemporary "safe sex" would actually be something along the lines of mutual masturbation, cybersex, etc.

safer sex would be barriers like condoms, dental dams etc. "safer" because it is safer than not using any fluid barriers, but there is still a risk of the barriers failing.

hrm... I went to private school as well =/

well no sex is the only safe sex...since that's not a reality in my world (or apparently yours) ..then safer sex is just a way of saying we try to avoid the riskier behaviours.

safe sex uses the standard precautions.
safer sex uses those same precautions plus battery acid to kill germs. - make sure you scrub with an s.o.s. pad.

safe sex, use condoms
unsafe sex, do not use condoms
