Lip gloss can be easily made at home using commonly available ingredients like Paraffin wax, Coconut oil, Petroleum jelly, Ziploc bag, Candy melts (to color the gloss and make it taste sweet), Oil-based candy flavoring depending on the type of flavor you like, Grater, Wax paper, small container like a recycled old makeup containers or film containers.
Grate some paraffin wax onto wax paper. Then measure 1/4 teaspoon of this grated wax into the plastic bag. Add 1 teaspoon coconut oil, 1 teaspoon petroleum jelly, 1 candy melt and 1/8 teaspoon oil-based candy flavoring.
Seal the bag and carefully put it in a bowl of hot tap water to melt ingredients for about 3-5 minutes. Only tap water is to be used and never use a microwave or stove to heat the water.
Once all the ingredients are melted well, remove the bag from the water. Squish ingredients around in bag to mix thoroughly and cut off a tiny corner of the bag and squeeze gloss into the clean container. Let it set for an hour, or store it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

Some lip gloss includes collagen as a lip plumper and sunscreen to protect lips. Different companies use a variety of ingredients, like Paraffin wax, Coconut oil, and Petroleum jelly. Candy may also be melted (to color the gloss and make it taste sweet) and/or dye and colorings.

Ok, first of all, it DOES NOT have whale blubber in it.. lol.
I think it really depends on the brand that you're getting, but I do know that most lipglosses are silica-based, oil-based (ex: jojoba oil is used in Lipglass, a lipgloss product from MAC Cosmetics, to create a thicker consistency with an appearance of more color), or water-based. Additional ingredients are added such as mica for reflection, fragrance, vit's e and c for anti-oxidants, and other additional ingredients for preservation. Then color pigments are added to produce, of course, color!
Depending on the brand, like I said, and the actual product, some of these ingredients will not be in the lipgloss. It's always best to look at the label if there's something in particular that you know you need to stay away from.
