Manifest Destiny is the statement which declared it the Destiny of the USA to expand from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts. This was proposed in the 19th century and the Lewis and Clark Expidition was just the begining of that expansion. Obviously the benificiaries of that proclimation was the US government and the people who were to become landowners of those new lands. The inhabitants where overrun militarily ove the course of that century. One of the ways which the inhabitants were overrun was through the use of Biological Warfare. Winter Blankets which contained Small Pox Virus were given to the Indians , which whiped out large amounts of them as the Indians had no natural immunity to Small Pox. The major benificiaries were the Railroads and Telegraph companies which brought people to California. This just a brief overview of the entire process. I hope this helps.
