I had complications from a surgery a few years ago and now i'm hearing that several malpractice and misconduct cases have been filed against the surgeon. How can I found out if this is true and if I should get a lawyer?

Their medical license info should be listened online under either your state's "Department of Business and Professional Regulation" or "Department of Health" (depending on which your state has it under) so I would google those search terms plus your state. For example, my doctor's licensing info is listed online under my State's Dept. of Health and would have any disciplinary actions or criminal proceedings listed from the past 10 years. Luckily, she doesn't have any! I would probably check this info first before hiring a lawyer since it is free.

I would do a search on the internet. You can try a couple of different things~ type in the city and the doctor's name and his/her degree (or try different combinations). Ex: "New Mexico John Smith MD" you could also add malpractice and/or misconduct to the search or you can try going to www.healthgrades.com and buy a detailed report on the doctor. I have looked up perspective doctors and with a little bit of effort have found out the info that I wanted, free. Good Luck!

If you seriously feel that you have a case, you could ask for a free consult with an attorney. If the attorney agrees that you have a case, he or she can access court records to find out if there has been cases filed in the past, which would have most likely been settled out of court by insurance companies. Just remember, make sure you have a solid case, as you can be sure that the insurance company and doctor have a lot of resources to use to protect their interests.

Ask his wife. If that doesn't work, ask his nurse. If that doesn't work, ask his girlfriend. And if that doesn't work, ask his former patients, if still living. And if that doesn't work, look up the Medical Ethics Board in your area.
But, beware: Like here in Rawlins, WY, one doctor ratted on fellow doctors at the Memorial Hospital for doing drugs and being drunk while operating. (Scapels) They, in turn, called him "Delusional," and forced him out of the hospital and into "Mental Health Treatment." (Yes, Big Mother Lives!)
He finally got his job back, but now we have no bone cutters as they've all left town.
Such is the prevasive corruption in the US EVERYWHERE, since they mandated the end of religion, ethics, morals, and traditional belief systems for the sake of "Diversity" and enforcement of Political Correctness by such names as the APA, NAMI, DFS, other Mind-Control measures.
"Diversity" means "Anything goes," see?
Good luck.
Keep your powder dry.
