It depends on a lot of factors. Criminal or Corporate Lawyer? Do you work only for private people, or as a public defender or DA? What type of doctor? Pediatrician, plastic surgeon, gynocologist? A lawyer can make anywhere from 50k-400k a year, depending on numerous factors.

A doctor probably grosses more income but has enormous expenses in medical malpractice insurance, and his office and equipment will be much more expensive than an attorney's. Being an attorney is a great job, one has the opportunity to work as little or as much as he or she wishes. Billing ordinarily starts at over $100 an hour. Some lawyers work very little and are happy not earning a lot, others work over 70 hrs. a week and make a great deal, but lack the time to enjoy the money.

The lowest paid physician does better than the lowest paid lawyer, this is due to the scarcity of physicians vs. lawyers. In fact at the bottom a lawyer can be making $30-40k. The highest paid lawyer does better than the highest paid physician, this is since a lawyer can literally make $100's of millions as a contingency from a large class action law suit.
