Two things to look for if you want durability above all:
1. Treadwear rating or UTQG (Uniform Tire Quality Grading) I suggest you get something within the range of 240-360, that will put you in moderate grip - high mileage territory.
2. Double steel belting
Hope this helps!

Oh! A fix-a-flat can might come in handy too :)

RE:
Who Makes The Safest Tires?
I live and work around areas where I am likely to runover objects that can destroy my tires. I drive a Subaru. Can anybody tell me who makes good tires that can hold up to most things that are not supposed to be on the road.

Firstly- you might want to check out the reviews on TireRack.com. However, most reviews are about ride quality, noise, mileage, handling.
Most good tires are fairly resistant to puncture. the more 'off-road' the tire, usually the tougher. So- something like BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A ko is pretty rugged beast- and would look cool on your Subie.
Of course- a big nail will puncture any tire.
consider run-flats if it's a real problem. And, of course, check the air in your spare.

Unless you have any problems with the stock tires you can rebuy those, or if you are looking for something different make sure you look for an all-season tire. If you dont like how it handles in the snow look at some all season tires with a little more aggressive tread to them, but remember that the more aggresive the tire, the more road noise you are going to hear...

Michelin tires are good but BF Goodrich All Terrain are the best ones. They are strong enough to runover any kind of objects you encounter on the road. I'm not saying so because they never get punctured but their endurance is impressive. The drawback that I noticed in them is that they are a bit hard and so you will loose some of the comfort in your car, but that is acceptable.

Well...run flat tires may be one route for you...though they're pricey and the ride is kind of harsh due to the reinforced sidewall.
But if you're out in the middle of nowhere and get a puncture...you can at least get back to civilization.

First of all, try avoiding the roadway obstacles. Unless you want really special, and expensive tires that can be run flat, try slowing down, and avoiding those hazards. So far as tires go, Generals. They are made in Charlotte, NC and while the name on the tire may not say "General", that may be exactly who made them.

I work in the oilfield and the best tires I've had were goodyear MTRs... but they may look a little goofy on a subaru.

You and your kids can fill them with dirt and plant flowers in them, if you have girls they will like this. If it's for boys then mabie some sand and they can use little cars and trucks to play in it. A saw horse can be used as a support for, tomatoe plants, pole beans and just about any vineing vegtable plant. Kids love to watch things they plant grow.
