This is how I used to do it. My mice know the time I would clean their cages, stock-up the food bowls and feed them treats etc. (I place them in a smaller cage as I do my cleaning. Instead of returning them to their usual cage, I put them near the end of the maze. They scuttle home to eat. Each time I place them further into the maze and they scamper home to eat again. Within a few days they're sprinting through the maze. I really think it's their own scent trail they leave behind so they don't even have to remember much, just follow their nose home. A nice treat at the end of the maze will also help a lot when you are doing this at different times of the day..

put the mouse in the maze and reinforce it to the way it needs to go. Say, put a treat at different spots of the correct direction. Then after it has successfully gone through the maze, slowly wean off the treats (and just provide at the end)... you do need some sort of incentive for the mouse to get through it in a decent amount of time. So food usually works best.

Just let them/it get used to the maze and slowly if it wants to it will go through the maze alone!

the 1st answerer is optimal. Rats are pretty intelligent and larger for that variety of stuff. in case you won't be able to try this, positioned it on the top of the maze and enable them to discover that. If that would not artwork, then reason them to the top with the countless food on your hands

My sis has 3 mice. Loves 'em. She taught them how to run across a long ruler by pointing/ tapping to the other side. Cute. Food sometimes works, but they are so small and don't eat a lot. Practice giving it food when it comes to where you tap your finger. Over and over. Maybe it would follow the same route eventually.
