I really want to see this movie, but it has torture scenes in it. Would someone tell me how bad it is? I really would like to know.

I think that my knuckles went white from the amount that I was gripping my seat. What the others have said is true, it really is not that gory. However, the scenes seem terribly realistic for all that you do see. I think that Mr. Del Toro wants to evoke a very visceral reaction in us when we see the movie, and I think that he achieves that. I was very uncomfortable during the torture scene, but torture is not a comfortable subject. I think that though the movie has fairy tale elements, it is a dark fairy tale, and it takes place in an even darker reality. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and would definitely recommend it.

It's not like Apocalypto territory, but still pretty gory. Amputations, disfigurements, and my personal favorite - blunt force trauma collapsing the front of a man's face. Mix that with some bullets and "typical" violence, and this movie earns it's 'R' rating. Still, not exactly a hard 'R'.

The torture scenes are not very graphic. It's no worse than any average war movie.
The fantasy parts outweigh the fascist torture parts.
I recommend it; it's nice that they have a fairy tale for adults.
