i know this will be long srry but this is something that means alot to me for personal reasons. i think that the way alcoholics are treated is not rite. first of all the law claims that they give duis to keep people from killing on the road and that there only concern is for safty well thats not true its about money. i know everyone doesnt get drunk at bars but alot do so if that is what they were worried about then y dont they sit outside the bar and test everyone before they leave and if they are to drunk then call them a cab instead of letting them get into the car in the first place? because if they are not on the road driving risking our lives then they cant give them a ticket $$ and take there license $$ and send them to dui school $$. and go to court $$ yes its all money.. im not saying dont fine them but here is the other side to it when they do go to court they fine them and thats its and a true alcoholic will be rite back to drinking and on the road in no time they have

last night when i wrote this i ran out of room and it wouldnt let me add details to finish it... you all have me wrong i am not for drinking i am totally against it i hate it. i think the law should be harder in fact i think that your first time you should be sent to treatment no excuses you need to be sent to dry out and then be tested every so often it is a disease... i am married to an alcoholic and i wish when he got his dui last yr they would have sent him to treatment because he wont go on his own and it is a sickness he is willing to give up his family for drinking. i only wish i had got to finish what i was trying to get to srry for the confusion. and my point about sitting at bars before people get into there cars was not so they could be babysat or let off it was thinking that maybewe could stop some one from being killed before it happens thats all hell i would volenteer to sit at a bar in my hometown for free and do iti hope that the people who answered me are reading this

Cops and bars are not babysitters and we have laws so that people can use their own mind to make the decision whether or not to get behind a wheel. Most bars try to make sure people are offered cabs when they leave, but if they refuse, what is the bar to do?
To think that cops sitting out bars is the solution is ridiculous. Do you know how many cops the state would have to hire, which in turn would make taxes higher and I am guessing you wouldn't like that. Let's face it, everything is motivated by money, but in this case, i believe that other things drive it. What is a fine going to do? If that was the case, I am sure I would've driven drunk a lot more than I did.
If I decide to get drunk and then get behind a wheel, then I take the risk of getting caught or killing someone or myself. I have been very lucky. When I was younger, I did some stupid things while drunk. I never got caught (I'm 26). I have about 25 friends that have gone to jail because of DUIs (wait till you're older, it'll happen). I don't look down on them at all, I could have been them. I fortunately never had to deal with that. But out of those 25 (probably more if I think about it), one went to jail for four months for her 2nd, one was on her third and went for a while (not sure), and one guy that was a friend of my good friends, was on his way home and killed an 18 year old girl. It was his third.
Now, I think that some of the consequences for DUIs are a little too harsh, but the states have to make examples out of people because, unfortunately, too many people think it'll never happen to them. Getting a DUI is not just about getting caught. No one likes to think about the fact that you or I could be on the road and that person could kill us or themselves. Just don't do it, stop making excuses, if you get caught, own up to it and pay for your mistakes.

Ask any police officer who has had to be on the scene of someone killed by a drunk driver and you will know that it's not about the money. One of my friends became a cop a year and a half ago. Not long after he had to respond to a scene where a drunk driver had killed a family with 2 small children.
The cops are NOT responsible to camp outside bars and call you a cab. It would be impossible for them to be in all bars and such places at once.
I hope that no one you love is ever hurt by a drunk driver.

If someone is intoxicated when they leave a bar, THEY should call THEMSELVES a cab. If you are old enough to drink, you are old enough to be responsible for following the laws set in place to protect you and those around you. If someone is arrested for driving under the influence, they have no one to blame but themselves. Police Officers are not babysitters. Your idea of Police sitting outside of bars and calling people cabs to help them not break the law is like saying that Police should sit outside of department stores, check everyone's pockets and purses as they come out, and give them the opportunity to go in and return what they stole and apologize instead of charging them with theft. Ridiculous. There are plenty of people in this world who can consume alcohol responsibly and not drive drunk. Those who cannot get no sympathy from me. I hope no one you care about has to be killed by a drunk driver before you wake up and realize why drunk driving is a crime, and not one motivated by money.

repeated drunk drivers and all alcoholic's that are habitual abusers that do not get or take treatment should be put to the death penalty it is a disease and they want no cure for it and when they kill you or a family member it takes that life and the life of the family also
they take it all and give nothing back so kick them off my planet
having a few drinks OK but there is a limit and most responsible human beings know there limit
but like I put before the ones that cant be fixed or are out there taking advantage of the system
get rid of them
