Make the lowest common denominator by multiplying the two denominators together, y * (y-2)
Then multiply the numerator of one fraction to the denominator of the other; do this for both fractions.

4y/[y(y-2)] + (y-2)/[y(y-2)] =
(4y+y-2)/(y^2-2y) =

4/(y-2) + 1/y = 4y/(y*(y-2)) + (y-2)/(y*(y-2))

=( 4y + y-2 ) / (y^2 - 2y) = (5y-2)/(y^2 - 2y)
