common symptoms are nausea, vomiting, and severe right upper abdominal pain that may radiate to the right shoulder and back. The symptoms commonly occur a few hours after eating a heavy meal of fatty or fried foods. If the stone totally obstructs one of the bile passages, jaundice (a yellow cast to the skin and eyeballs), dark urine, clay-colored stools, and itching of the skin may also occur. There is more information but I don't want to write a book here. Find the Nutrition Almanac for the rest.

I've had gallstones and had my gallbladder removed. The information the dr. gave me said that patients with most tendency toward gallstones are:
Female
Have had children
Over 50
Overweight/sedentary
When a gallstone tries to pass through the bile duct, it's very painful. I thought I was having a heart attack and ended up in the emergency room. Gallbladder surgery is very quick and precise and can be done on an outpatient service. Recovery is faster than after the old gallbladder surgeries of years ago. It still takes you time to recover, but it's much better than the pain and risk of gallstones. I'd see a doctor, they usually know right away if your symptoms are gallstones because they are very common. Best of luck.

Yes you can pass gallstones. Now some times the problem may not be gallstones. You should have yourself checked as there is a muscle at the end of the common bile duct that can spasm at times and cause symptoms of gallstones. This can be checked out by your doctor by doing some simple tests. I had to have this muscle stretched a number of years ago and I was sure I had gallstones had all the symptoms but all the tests were negative until my last study and found the gallbladder emptied very slowly. A simple procedure was done and i have not had any problems since. I still have my gallbladder.
If it turns out to be gallstones then they will remove it

Yes, the nurse is correct. Remember the 5 F's as risk factors: over Forty, Female, Fat, Family history and Fertile. That's not to say that you have to have any or all of the risk factors but it does increase one's odds. No they won't pass by themselves. First you should make sure (not pretty sure) of your diagnosis. Many people with gallstones don't neccessarily have attacks, so treatment should be based on your specific situation.

Have you had an ultrasound to confirm? I think it's the only way to be sure. I had my gallbladder out last year. Four fairly small incisions...no more pain! After a couple gall bladder attacks the pain of the surgery is definitely worth it! I have never heard of passing them. Get the surgery and get on with life without fear of an attack.

I really do not think that having kids increases your chances.....I do have a child, and had my gahlbladder removed a year and a half ago, two m onths later my daughter had to have hers removed as well. Up until my attack and my daughters there had been nobody in my family that had had problems or surgery from that. I just think it is how your body is and how have taken car of it as well.

wow, heal ones self is a genius!
You do not need surgery! People today think that everything is all or nothing and right now. Do a Gallbladder/liver flush and you will be amazed at how great you feel after. You can do one about every 6 months. It is amazing to actually see the stones and know that they can't slow you down anymore! I do a flush that uses Epsom salts and the week prior drinking lots of apple juice. The malic acid in the apples soften the stones. Do your homework before you decide anything though.

No, you cannot pass them. You have to have your gallbladder removed. I have never heard that having kids increases your risk. I know 6 people who have had them and 3 of them have never had children.
