When you share the folder with the files in it, you can leave the following box unchecked under the Sharing tab.

"Allow network users to change my files"

have the file as executable only for yourself, and have the Shared folder with write and execute privileges only for yourself. To delete a file would need write privileges. Also that way nobody else can "give" you an un-requested file. Like a virus.

NT based Microsoft systems, like XP and their new security OS they are trumpeting about, has that feature built in, but they still have the whole filesystem giving root or administrative privileges to Internet Explorer.

Mac and other Unix based systems, like Linux, aren't. Unless you go on the internet as root or admin, your root filesystem is safe. Or as safe as it can be.

If you notice, Bill Gates and Co. are advertising their stuff as being easier to use, meaning they discourage the users from learning anything about the workings of Windows, and if you want custom functions you need to buy it from their company. And they speak really tiny about security, they might say, yeah Mac and Linux are more Secure, BUT...

Also they are not really happy about the idea or ideals of file sharing. That's why they don't sell any filesharing plans like BearShare or bittorrent or LimeWire.

But if you are using some version of Windows, the permissions for files are called Attributes.

Just make sure you have a copy of the files in a location that is really hard to get at, by anybody else.

You can put user rite on your file so network user can open and read your file but he / she cant delete your files.
if you have xp then right click on that particular folder or drive which you want to share then click on shared then see Network sharing and security there is two boxes one Share this folder on the network tick on it and another is allow network users to change my files dont tick on it, after that network user can see and read your files but they wont delete your files. do it dude and enjoy
