I recently bought a set of component cables for my PS2 but I read somewhere that even with the cables, the PS2 will not output in 480p. Instead I would have to get another piece of hardware or software to enable the PS2 to do that? So what is the point of buying a set of component cables for the PS2 in the first place?

If you want 480p, I think you need to go into the options menu and charge it to component output.

I'm not an expert here.. I think only certain models had progressive scan capability. 480p is a progressive scan mode. Does your screen support progressive scan?
