I grew up in Montana and we always had a chest freezer in an uninsulated building. Never had a problem with it in the 20 years that I was living back there.

We live in Chicago, and have a fridge/freezer in an unattached, uninsulated garage. It's been fine for two years. Great place for the beers...
It should be fine. Get a freestanding one that looks like a fridge, so you are not digging down to get your goodies..

It shouldn't be a problem, so long as your electrical wiring is well-done and the garage is dry. To test it out without spending too much, I would suggest checking in your local classified ads to see if you can find a used freezer for sale for a reasonable price - that way, if it dies, you haven't spent a fortune on it. Put one out there, give it a month, and if it's still working fine, then go ahead and load it up with food or buy a new one.

I don't think you will have any problem with most chest freezers. Do not get a "frost free" model. These models use a defrost cycle with a heater which will problably fail in winter.
Do not get a refrigerator/freezer. Obviously.
Freezers have working fluids that should not freeze in your environment even at -30 degrees F, but even if they did it would most likely be ok. Ice is so damaging because water expands when it freezes, but almost every other fluid shrinks when it freezes.

It is not recommend to put a freezer in such an environment - we had one in our garage and it quit working and we didn't notice - until the smell got bad - we had to throw the freezer away!@~

I grew up in Dublin; our family owned a small herd at one time; sadly they disliked being unattached. Unknown to us, they availed of the free classified section of the national newspapers and escaped into bedsits in pairs.

And your question is? If your question is, is it possible, the freezer itself is self-contained and insulated. All you need is proper wiring. If you want, throw an insulated blanket around it, making sure it can breath at the bottom. Have any good venison going in there?

You need to make sure you put a sub floor in for it to sit on. It probably would do alot better than just sitting on concrete floor.
