That's a pretty good age for a hamster. Their average lifespan is 3-5 years. I take it he's a large breed hamster and not a dwarf. Dwarfs live 2-3 years. He's in the prime of his life. I'm hoping this is not the case, but sometimes when it's their time to go, they do get a sudden amount of energy for a week to several months and suddenly their gone. We just had it happen. Our oldest a dwarf, we have both kinds, had been ill, but the vet gave him medicine and he was recovering. He had a huge amount of energy for 3 days and died. He was almost 2 and possibly had a form of cancer. His sister has it as well as several of their offspring. We had started with 2 pairs each had babies that have died from cancer also. My daughter's hamster has suddenly lost body weight and we too think it may be his time soon. In any case enjoy him as long as you can.

Is the room any brighter now, or have you changed the location of the cage? I think it is probably just a normal change in his routine. However on a sadder note 3 yrs is rather old for a hamster if I read that correctly. I dont think the 2 have anything to do w/ each other and I know it is awful to think about, I would be heart broken if something happened to our little guy. I believe the average life expectancy is right around 3 yrs.

I hear that hamsters will do something for a kimono and of challenge to concern violations. If that's not incentive sufficient, attempt not feeding him. there's a right away correlation between nutrition intake and champagne output, or so as that they informed me in biology class. of direction, that selection right into an prolonged time in the past and that i've got been enormously plenty interested in different issues, including human beings magazine, turtles, and finding the appropriate vacuum cleanser.

we used to have a hamster too almost three years... and yes after sometime he did seem to have more energy on day time... even running around on his wheel... i suppose it has something to do with the fact that he was a HE and he doesn't have a partner so i guess he was just spending his excess energy since he doesn't have a partner to spend it on... they have sex drives too you know

Hamsters are nocturnal, which means they are awake at night.

Have you changed his diet recently? It could be his food, or perhaps he is just happier.
