I am trying to find out what stores near me might sell come-a-longs.. does Home Depot sell them? Or would you be more likely to ind them at an auto store? WalMart? Sears? Does anyone know?

Are they sold by other names? Maybe searching for them under another name would help me..

I live in Southern Claifornia by the way. San diego

The Home Depot and Menard or even Lowes should have a variety of sizes and strenghts. Make sure you purchase one that is designed for the job you are doing. You don't want it snapping back and hitting you in the face.

I have all seen them called "ratchet tie downs" kind of the same thing and where I got mine they were all together.

Good luck.

Harbor Freight Tools.

Get one at Harbor Freight, and you might not even finish using it once! Their stuff is cheap, cheap. Both price and quality. You get what you pay for, and if the come-along is going to be lifting anything heavy, or pulling anything that could roll or fall back, or where somebody could get hurt, don't take chances on cheap junk.

I've had more than my share of experience with H-F and other "bargain house" tools!

Only other name I could think of might be "ratchet pulley" or grouped with block & tackle...

I was thinking most auto parts stores would carry them as a regular item. Sears would at least have them as a catalog item.

Ace is the place.

Ace hardware stores also tend to have the most helpful staff.

Lowes has them right near the chain and rope, they might call it a strap hoist or a ratcheting tie-down.
