Since you are only going to be there for a year why not check out to see if your neighbors would like to add your compost to theirs. Or if you would like to plant a garden while you are there you can make a wire basket with the bottom sitting on the ground in the middle of your garden. Leave a walkway to the center and plant in a circle around it. The taller growing plants in next to your basket and lowest in the outer edge. You compost will start breaking down within days feeding nutrients into the ground slowly. Sprinkle a bit of lime over the top every so often to keep the smell down.

Get a big plastic bin and fill it with some dirt and worms. Not sure the best kind of worms (some are picky eaters). Some eco-friendly hotels and businesses are using this method.

The quickest and most space efficient is the rotating drum setup. You can buy them or make it up from plans. Buy it.
