Well, if it gets picked up by a renowned publisher, it shouldn't cost you anything.

It's the "vanity" publishers that cost the writer money--those companies that put only a relatively low number of books into the market at the expense of the writer. Those can cost upwards of several hundred dollars.

Even though it's harder, I would try to get published by a real book publisher. Your best chance would be to get an agent--and as far as I know, agents only get paid when your book is sold to a publisher, and they get paid about 10-15%.

If you just type up a manuscript, you can probably have it bound at a booksellers or a college bookstore that binds masters and doctor's thesis.

If you want to see your book in stores all around the world, you should try and find an agent and submit your manuscript to large publishing houses. This is the best way to go, and yes an agent will cost money but they know the business!

If you want to self-publish, or do publish-on-demand, try Publish America. Someone there can probably give you better information.

If it is a good book, they pay you, not the other way around. Never accept a publisher that makes YOU pay, they are vanity press, and they don't care if your book is good or bad, they will publish it for a price. if your book has potential, a good publisher will help you make it better and salable to readers, If its bad, they will tell you as well.
