You need to talk to her. If she's willing to lose a friendship over a promotion, then she's not a true friend.

You may only be missing a friendship that's not worth pursuing. Some people are promoted before they are ready or able to handle both the responsibility and the challenges that come with interpersonal office relationships. Sounds like she might fit that category. Give it some time and don't try to reestablish the past friendship until and unless you get a real impression that she also wants to continue without any "conditions". Seems like you would be best off keeping arms length at this time. Be civil but careful.

Technically managers are not supposed to fraternize with other employees but nothing is usually done about it unless its like dating and it becomes a problem. My last job I became practically best friends with the general mgr. I would tell her how you feel, theres really no sense in ending the friendship over it. Jobs come and go but friends shouldnt. Hope it works out for you.

i became really good friends with my boss. but i would never put our friendship in any relation to our jobs. maybe she was worried that your friendship would get in the way of what she had to do. but if she was a real friend she would know how to handle it. i'd say she wasnt a friend worth keeping anyways.

It's just the professionalism of the situation, she probably thinks that your friendship will get in the way or something. Just be more professional in the office to show them that you can handle a friendship with an officemate.

Yes because if you two fight then its an issue in the workplace
Also a lot of companies discourage the boss having a "favorite" employee.

I think it is okay to be friends with your boss to a certain extent. but being friends cannot get mixed with your work. from expierence, it will cause other co-workers to think favortism is taking place and get your friend/boss in trouble. Unless you and your boss are the only employees in that area:)

Maybe your boss now feels that there might be a conflict of interest, but if there is an "understanding" that you know where she stands and she know where you stand and can accept and respect that, then there should be no problem, but it happens.

Some friendships are what I would describe as situational. You meet people and click with them instantly, then once the situation changes then the frienship does too. Strange and unfair but it happens.
Sorry!
