I'm a Dutch straight guy, but strongly in favor of equal rights for all human beings.

I recently participated in the gay parade in Romania. It made me wonder about how marketing works. I don't think 300 guys in a dress, no matter how colorful it looks to me, is the best way to advertise gay rights. 300 guys in a tuxedo would also look kinda silly, so, I have no idea how to do it better, btw.

I also wonder if the term 'gay rights' is the best way to claim the rights of homosexuals. Wouldn't it be much better, and much more fair to simply talk about 'human rights' ?

I was just curious on your opinions about this.

In The MIDWEST gay parades is a big part of us expressign ourselves, and coming together as 1 without any DRAMA or CONFLICTS just to unite and have a outing amongst us where noone can degrade us or try to menatlly abuse us because they would have to speak it to almost 500 or more people and none has the patience to do that. It's just a form of expression for all walks of The GAY LIFE and a time to be open and alot of people feel the LOVE and even come out at the PARADEs. Somethign that they might not have been able to do without feeling the love of the community of the parade.

I think it's a bad thing ---- it should be human right as in all humans should have the same rights regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation etc. Ok, gay pride parades are good for raising awareness and fun to watch occasionally.

Well, I'm sure to you the concept seems a bit odd. Concidering Holland has full equality for all citizens, but in many other countries we do not.
Here in the USA all humans have the right to marry another human....as long as it's someone of the OPPOSITE gender. Hence the need to ensure access to marriage rights for gays to marry their partner of choice, which would be someone of the SAME gender.
As far as Pride Parades, they have little to do with "gay rights" directly. Mostly they're about exposure and awareness. If that means 300 men dressed in brightly colored dresses, so be it...if that's what causes them to get attention.

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) Parades aren't all the different if you think about it. A typical Mardi Gras Parade will have roughly the same amount of men dressed in brightly colored dresses and they're not marching to gain awareness for gays at all. Heck, I'm sure many who attend would be hard pressed to even know the significance of the parades to begin with.

I beleive everyone has the right to live in piece as long as they arent hurting anyone else.

The term 'gay rights' is just isolating them from the rest of society which is totally un nessecery, they are human too, we all do the same things and need the same things, they just choose a different life style to others, which if its not hurting anyone, whats the big deal?

I live near the largest non capital city which has the highest population of same sex couples in australia, i work with same sex people, I see them everyday, they are no different to me, if anything they are much easier to get along with.

But the whole thing started with the topic of same sex marriages, with religious nuts slamming the idea because a marrage to them is between a man and a women, but really its about a person devoting their whole self to another human being, with no reference to gender.

so basicly i think the term 'gay rights' is a whole wad of crap that was made up to isolate them from the rest of society because society doesnt like what they do behind closed doors, I say who cares?? there are heaps of 'straight' people doing much worse things out there, but they dont have a reference......

Of course, gay rights are included in human rights, but it's more complicated than that. They're asking for the same human rights, but also want their relationships to have rights equal to those of straight married people. Why can a husband and wife share health insurance, but in many cases, gay domestic partners can't? Why can a husband and wife adopt a child, but in many cases both members of a gay partnership can't? In many places a gay domestic partner can't visit his or her partner in a hospital because they're not considered a member of the family. THAT'S NOT RIGHT!

well they alredy have as many basic rights as everyone else, why should they get more for chosing a lifestyle that is not healthy?
As far as marige. That is a God made union so call it what you will gay people will never truly be maried.
They shouldnt get the same rights as maried couples beacuse they cant be maried beacuse above reason.
They could probobly get some things for living in the same house, but not for being partners. if thats the case boyfriends and girlfriends should have those rights extended to them as well if they live in the same house. not saying thats right ither but as far as "fairness" gose thats as far as it gets I think.

You gotta admit that all parades are kind of gay, so I don't know what the big deal is.
