It doesn't matter where you live crime happens every where and when my 14.5 year old walks home from his friends house which is about a block away I'm worried. There are so many perverts and people who just want to hurt somebody in the world today they don't care how old you are if your a male or female, so just be safe and try to get home before it gets to dark or even call home for a ride, and if your at a friends house and it gets dark I think the parent of that friend should offer a ride I know I would.
Good Luck and Be Safe!!

Probably not, I dont' have kids but I'm 17 and when I walk down the street (it's only 4-5 houses) from my friends house with only one street light at 10pm it's extremely dark and creepy. My mom hates it and makes normally my friend stand outside and one of will run, etc. And we don't live in a bad area, today you don't have to live in a bad area for things to happen to you.
I don't even go out exercising by myself during the day just because i'm too paranoid. I wouldn't trust it unless they were in a group with a cell phone and at a certain time, growing up it was always the street light rule :)

Nope. Not unless it was a gated community, and maybe not even then. He needs a buddy if he's going to walk. Either that or get him some type of really mean dog to walk with him.

uh yeah i would. you cant be over protective. what are you going to do when theyre 18 and move out and can walk everywhere at anytime.
do you/they have a cell phone?
they dont need to go for long walks aimlessly but if its just like walking home or something..why not.

What would be the reason? If a girl that age just decided to go for a walk at that time, I would be suspicious.

it depends if its a guy or girl aswell.
thats not sexist or anything but generally males are given more freedom as children from their parents.
