I opened my windows and washed my walls with OdoBan. Then I steam cleaned the carpets with OdoBan as well. The smell didn't return.

Get one of those febreeze air afects you can find them at most stores. When you clean your carpets put a 1/4 cup of downey in the water. Once dry buy some carpet fresh check for the one for smoke put down before work let sit on carpet for eight hours. Then vaccum. When you wash the walls use lysol 1/2 cup of lemon juice to one gallon water wash down the walls good. Then spray with febreeze. This should do the trick. We bought our condo and the last owner was a smoker and we could not afford to paint and re carpet so I did this. I could still smell it but not to bad.

wash down your wash with a solution of a little bit of bleach and 3/4 of water.

rent a carpret cleaner (they're pretty easy to use) .or if you need a cheap way buy a carpet odor SPRAY, spray your carpet down let it sit for about an hour and then vaccum

while you let the spray sit light good strong smelling candles (yakee doodle candles are best or for cheap try GLAD) in every corner of the room and that should do the trick.

after your done vaccuming and washing the walls down leave your windows open for a little bit to air out the room.

The only way I've seen or smelled it work is by giving the apartment some fresh paint and if that does not work then you may have to recarpet it. If you are new to the complex the landlord should pay to have it repaint and recarpeted.

open windows and lots of febreeze - routine daily for some time until it all goes away... but unfortunately, it may not completely go away. Would be helpful to replace any window coverings/ mini blinds, etc. and to get the carpet cleaned by a professional.

Leave saucers and bowls of vinegar around. It is more important to have a shallow but wide dish than having a deep one. The more surface of vinegar there is the better.
