I would choose a Toyota, for quality there really is not comparison. I really wish America made good cars, but American cars just don't measure up. There is a very good reason these two manufacturers are heading in opposite directions. Toyota is now the world's #2 automaker behind GM, and it is set to pass it in a couple of years. GM 's market share just keeps on shrinking even in the USA where they used to have approx 60% market share, now they are under 30%. If it was not because of rental car companies and corporate and government fleets, GM's market share would be a lot smaller. We have owned several Toyotas in our family. Also Consumer Reports does a lot of testing, and Toyota beats GM easily.

I am driving my seventh Toyota, and there is no question I will continue to choose Toyota. They are a very reliable car. I've spent very little on repairs over the years (1998); I change oil and timing belts religiously; and I keep up with all the maintenance required in the owner's manual.
This is my first Camry and it's the best car I've ever had. I have 158,000 miles on it and it drives like a new car.
Look at Consumer Reports. They will tell you how reliable and excellent a car Toyota makes.

Chevy Impala beat the Camry this year in JDPower initial quality. Either the Impala or the Camry would be a fine choice, but I'd pick the Impala for the parts availability and dealer network.
Every small town in the USA has a Chevy dealership and parts for the Impala. Not so for Toyota.
