No unless some measures are done.

This is because rich will become richer and the poor will become poorer. This is because all the factors of production, i.e. labour(human resources), land (natural resources), capital (machinery), entrepreneurship is controlled by the rich and is uneven distributed, and these factors can generate income or wealth to its owner.

Therefore, poverty will always exist unless redistribution of wealth is done and income is the same for everyone after redistribution of wealth had take place or all the factors of production is owned by the states.

Why are people looking at america when they refer to poverty? I think really the question lies at the people in Asia, Africa, etc. who are MUCH poorer than us here in America. There will be the homeless here in America, but I don't think that's what he means by poverty.

The one thing that I know is that poverty will be much better in 50 years than it is now, barring some huge catastrophic event. Those who say it will get worse are ignoring the huge economic growth we are seeing throughout much of the world. China, which I'm sure everyone is aware of, is growing at a huge pace and is set to be the first third world country to get rid of poverty. India, Singapore, Thailand, MANY of the asian countries are right behind China. Other areas of the world need some help still, including Brazil despite its huge GDP growth (a lot of that GDP growth is just going to the top 1%, there's a huge gap between the rich and poor). However, I remain an optimist. I think in 50 years our understanding of economics will be much greater, and many countries will be able to mimic what the Asian countries have done.

I'd say poverty is still around, but greatly reduced in 50 years.

No! The world will never get rid of poverty, forget about the next 50 years. There will always exist these two classes of the society - the rich and the poor.

Poverty is largely (but, I suppose, not exclusively) caused by stupidity.

Do you think the world will be rid of stupidity in 50 years?

No, poverty will always be with us. Aside from a little common sense and understanding of human nature, if you are Christian, the Bible says right in it that poverty will never be solved.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try, though. Because it IS still helping someone, even if you can't help everyone.

Could happen but I'm not going to hold my breath.
We the people have to make MUCH better choices in the candidates we elect. We must STOP big business from lobbying the government......lobbying of any sort should be banned. The money the candidates spend to get elected is obscene and must be capped. Campaigns must be run on the political aspirations of the candidates or parties, not what is wrong with the opposition. We have to make much better choices. We have to make much better choices. We have to make much better choices.
