I have worked for years with people .people in lots of pain.pain that is self induced, pain they accept as the price they pay for having wants and needs full filled, they come at first believing they want to be healed but then in the face of having to give up the thing that causes the pain turn and run back into it.not willing to surrender self.sometimes they return self defeated and willing to surrender to God (The only real healer of broken souls)but most do not.It can be so hard to understand why they prefer their broken lives, but at the same time i was there once ,full of self and self loathing, I could not recognize love, those that tried to help me were viewed as trying to tell me how to live! I was in control! but life wouldn't cooperate.and it wasn't my fault.finally (praise God) my life spun out of control so badly even I had to admit i was at the end.and i cried out in desperation to GOD and he caught me as i fell. Then I began to learn about love.25 years later and im still learning on a daily basis .4 or 5 years ago i was working with some people in a group trying to witness and encourage a personal relationship with God, failure after failure and i became so depressed and angry and hurt and i poured this out to God and about how i thought i had been led to do this but i was failing and no one was growing and clear as day a voice said to me, YOU ARE! ---------So please dont ever give up teaching by word or deed. as an avid gardener i know that i dont always see the growth as its happening that somtimes i walk by a plant and go "wow when did that happen", or a plant that struggled to just survive suddenly out blooms everything else.---to God be the glory

One, if not the only reason is that people love themsevlves too much. We have a problem realizing and admitting our own faults which in turn makes us lay blame on circumstances or the "others".
That's why even "religeous" people condon hate and even war! But almost all serious religions promote the "golden rule" or to "love your neighbour as yourself".
Could you immagine, if all Jews, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sihks, Hindus and others, who all have been given the teachings of compassion and forgiveness toward others, would live up to that? There would be peace on earth!!

Because Love is not mechanical. It cannot be practiced.
